Not every Threads video is worth saving as a video. Sometimes you just want the audio — a podcast-style conversation, a spoken piece, background music from a clip you liked, or someone’s voice post that you want to listen to later without opening the app.

Threads doesn’t have a built-in way to extract audio. But if a video has an audio track, you can pull the MP3 directly — same process as downloading a video, just choosing a different output format at the end.

When Does Extracting Audio from Threads Actually Make Sense?

Podcast-style content. Creators increasingly use Threads as a lightweight audio platform — short spoken takes, Q&As, commentary. If someone posts a ten-minute discussion you want to come back to, saving it as MP3 means you can listen in a podcast app or music player without needing to watch anything.

Voice posts. Threads has a native voice post feature — short audio recordings that appear in the feed like any other post. These are stored as audio files on Threads’ servers, and you can download them directly as MP3.

Background music or audio from a video. You heard something in a clip and want to identify it or keep it. Downloading the audio track gets you the file without the video attached.

Offline listening. You want to hear something on a commute, at the gym, or anywhere without relying on a connection or burning mobile data.

One Thing to Know Before You Start

The MP3 option only appears if the Threads post actually contains audio. This sounds obvious, but it catches people off guard.

Some videos on Threads are uploaded without a sound track — silent clips, slideshows, or videos where the creator removed the audio before posting. In those cases, there’s no audio to extract, and no MP3 option will appear. You can download the video, but not an audio-only version.

Voice posts always have audio, so those will always offer MP3. Videos with music or speech will too. Silent videos won’t.

How to Convert Threads to MP3 — Step by Step

Step 1 — Find the post and copy the link

Open Threads and navigate to the video or voice post you want to save as audio. Tap the three-dot icon on the post and select Copy link.

Step 2 — Open savethr.com and paste the link

For a quick Threads to MP3 conversion, open savethr.com in your browser, paste the link into the input field, and tap Download.

Step 3 — Select MP3 from the format options

The tool processes the link and shows what’s available. If the post has audio, you’ll see an MP3 option alongside the video formats. Select MP3 to extract audio from Threads and save it directly to your device.

What Audio Quality Can You Expect?

The audio quality of the MP3 depends on the original upload. Threads doesn’t standardize audio bitrate across all posts — a professionally recorded voice post will sound different from a phone video with ambient background noise.

The extraction process itself doesn’t degrade quality. The tool pulls the audio track directly from the video file stored on Threads’ servers and saves it as MP3. No re-encoding that would reduce quality further.

For voice posts and spoken content, the result is generally clear and perfectly listenable. For music embedded in videos, it depends heavily on how the original creator mixed and uploaded the content.

Where Does the MP3 File Go?

On Android, the file downloads to your Downloads folder and should be accessible from any music or audio player app. Google Play Music, Spotify (local files), VLC, and most podcast apps can open MP3 files from your storage.

On iPhone, the download prompt asks where to save. Tap Save to Files to store it in the Files app — from there you can open it in GarageBand, VLC, or any audio player that supports local files. The native iOS Music app can also import local MP3s if you add them through iTunes or Files.

Voice Posts vs Video Audio — Is There a Difference?

Voice posts on Threads are recorded and stored as audio files directly. When you extract them as MP3, you’re essentially getting the original recording.

For videos, the audio is embedded in the MP4 container alongside the video track. Extracting it separates the audio track from the video — what you get is the exact same audio that played when you watched the video, just without the visual component.

In both cases, the file you end up with is a standard MP3 that plays in any audio app on any device.

Can You Do This on iPhone Without a Computer?

Yes. The entire process works from Safari or Chrome on iPhone — no desktop needed, no app to install. Paste the link, tap Download, choose MP3, and save to Files. The MP3 is on your phone and can be played from the Files app directly or moved to any audio player that supports local files.

The Short Version

To do a Threads to MP3 conversion: copy the link from the Threads post, open savethr.com in your browser, paste it, and select MP3 from the download options. The option only appears if the post actually has audio — voice posts always do, videos without a soundtrack won’t show it. The file saves as a standard MP3, works on any audio player, and the whole process takes under a minute. To extract audio from Threads you don’t need any desktop software or separate conversion tool — it’s all handled in the browser.
